The Custody's Wishes To The Orthodox Churches For Easter

It is a long-established practice, which after the year of pandemic returns to take place in person: a few days after the Orthodox Easter, the friars of the Custody of the Holy Land brought their good wishes to the Greek, Ethiopian, Syriac and Coptic Orthodox Churches in Jerusalem, after having received theirs on the occasion of the Catholic Easter, a month earlier.
Brother Francesco Patton, Custos of the Holy Land, greeted the Greek-Orthodox Patriarch Theophilus III with particular enthusiasm. "We hope and pray," said the Custos, "that the fire of reconciliation, peace, resurrection and newness of life that Easter gives us will reach deep into the hearts of all men and women throughout the world. I take this opportunity," he continued, "to say that we hope that our communities will be able to express, especially within the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, a sign of unity". "Patriarch Theophilos III replied, "The important cooperation between us is an encouraging sign for all those who seek hope and spiritual refreshment in Jerusalem during this Easter season."
Shortly afterwards, the Patriarch of Jerusalem of the Latins, Mgr Pierbattista Pizzaballa, arrived to offer his best wishes, together with representatives of other Christian denominations. Pizzaballa said, "We, the Churches of Jerusalem, have the duty to bear witness to the light before the world, and first of all before our communities".
The Franciscans then went to Archbishops Aba Embakob of the Ethiopian Patriarchate, Gabriel Daho of the Syriac Patriarchate and Anba Antonios of the Coptic Patriarchate, who renewed their respect, esteem and friendship towards the Custody of the Holy Land. To all, Br Francesco Patton recalled the words spoken by Pope Francis on the occasion of Easter 2021: "This is the proclamation of Easter: Christ is alive, Christ accompanies my life, Christ is beside me. In these days of Easter it would be good for us to repeat 'The Lord is alive'".
