The Solemnity of Christ the King arrived in the Holy Land, in a context marked by a conflict that seems to have no end. To celebrate this anniversary, on 23 November, the General Secretariat of the Latin Youth of Galilee organised a meeting dedicated to young people, at the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth, under the slogan ‘There where the King is’. A King whose kingdom does not belong to this world. What earthly king has ever defeated death? None. Earthly kings merely defeat life. H E Card PIERBATTISTA PIZZABALLA Patriarch of Jerusalem of the Latins Jesus Christ gives us a different kingdom, far from the models of human kingdoms: the kingdom of love and life. He conquered death with love, through his death on the cross and the glory of his resurrection. Fr RAMEZ TWAL Spiritual Director of Christian Youth in Galilee Despite the difficult conditions, in which people pray incessantly for peace, the meeting was attended by some 350 young people from most of the Galilee parishes. Their presence was interpreted as a sign of great hope. The celebration was enriched by hymns, prayers, entertainment, and a lecture given by Mgr. Rafiq Nahra, Latin Patriarchal Vicar in Israel. During his speech, Mgr. Nahra highlighted the importance of hope in these difficult times, referring to the Bull of Pope Francis inviting us to live the Jubilee of 2025, with the theme ‘Hope does not disappoint’. Mgr RAFIQ NAHRA Latin Patriarchal Vicar in Israel The Pope reminds us that hope and the gift of the Holy Spirit is for everyone, it is a gift from God, and hope stems from our faith in God's love. MAJD ABU RAHMUN Nazareth Today's meeting strengthened my faith and my hope. Christ never promised us an easy or trouble-free life, but He is the source of our strength, and in Him we find the faith and hope to face every challenge. H E Card PIERBATTISTA PIZZABALLA Patriarch of Jerusalem of the Latins My message to young people is this: if you want to bring hope to these situations where it seems to have disappeared and where despair dominates, you must perform acts of love. The issue of immigration was among the topics discussed in the dialogue sessions. Father Poggi, rector of Beit Jala Seminary, said that the sirens we hear these days make us aware of the dangers. While in the diaspora there are no sirens warning the immigrant of the risk of losing values and solidarity. Fr BERNARD POGGI Rector of Beit Jala Seminary There is a growing trend towards a lonely life, especially in the West, where our people face many challenges. They live in a silent war, without even realising it. In addition, I am convinced that an immigrant, if not surrounded by the presence of God, a community, a homeland and solid values, inevitably risks becoming lost. The festive mass was presided over by Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Patriarch of Jerusalem of the Latins. During the Mass, members of the Secretariat renewed their vows to continue serving the Church through service to young people. This followed the words of the Gospel: ‘no one who puts his hand to the plough and then turns back is fit for the kingdom of God’ (Lk, 9, 62). In his homily, Cardinal Pizzaballa highlighted that peoples and nations, throughout history and even today, have sought a king or men of power capable of solving all their problems. But this experiment has proved to be a failure. He recalled the words of Christ: ‘I am the one you are waiting for’. At the end of the celebration, a commemorative photo was taken of the members of the General Secretariat together with Patriarch Pizzaballa.
