On the morning of Holy Thursday, the Easter Triduum opens in the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The Chrism Mass and the Mass in Coena Domini are united in a single celebration. The Mass was presided over by H.B. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Patriarch of Jerusalem of the Latins, with the priests of the diocese, religious, faithful and pilgrims. DANIELA Italy "It was a very emotional thing, I never thought I would experience such peace... and then it is very important to be here with my children... and also to receive the final blessing: we hope it will guard us in this time of great effort." In his homily, the patriarch emphasized Jesus' attitude of trust in the Father, the true source - he said - of synodality. "The invitation to synodality is simply the invitation to 'be Church' in the time of dispersion, to lead everyone back to walk together." It is the day in which the patriarch speaks to his diocese: priests, religious and faithful, gathered for this celebration. To them, H. B. Pizzaballa delivered a very precise message. "The word is, 'Let us return to the community.' Let's return and stay in Jerusalem, let's return and stay in the Church." In the evocative rite of the "washing of the feet", the Patriarch repeated the gesture of Jesus, who during the Last Supper bent down to wash the disciples' feet, since then a gesture-symbol of love. It is also the day of the renewal of the priestly promises and in which the institution of the priesthood and the Eucharist is remembered. Mgr JAMAL KHADER Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan "To follow Jesus, that is the vocation of the priest. To follow him to the cross and follow him to the resurrection. And then teaching, encouraging people to follow Jesus, that's our vocation." Finally, the rite of blessing the holy oils - the oil of the catechumens, the chrism and the oil of the sick. With this sign, the Church accompanies each person in all the stages of their life. According to tradition, at the end of Mass, the Blessed Sacrament was carried in procession: three laps around the aedicule of the Holy Sepulchre, the last of which included the stone of anointing. Then the reposition in the sepulcher. "May the oils we consecrate make the dynamism of our synodality more fluid. May the washing of feet make us capable of walking together. May the Eucharist celebrated and received rekindle in us a passion for the Church and her mission. And so, from our dispersions we will be led back to unity in Christ".
