Despite depopulation in 1948, there is still life in the village of Al-Majaydel, near Nazareth, thanks to the continued presence of the Franciscan friars.
This year, the Feast of Archangels Gabriel, Michael and Raphael coincided with the 120th anniversary of the Franciscan presence in the village.

An anniversary to remind us that there are people who dedicate themselves full of love to the Lord, to the Holy Land and to the service of mankind. We Franciscan friars, wherever we are, remain faithful to our prayers and service for all Christians.
The Mass held in the Franciscan Shrine dedicated to the Archangel Gabriel was presided over by Brother Francis Patton, Custos of the Holy Land. In his homily, the Custos explained how "angel means messenger, and we honour angels as those who bring us an important message from God. This evening we ask for a simple and special grace: that of knowing how to listen to the voice of angels, to listen to the word of God".

The announcement of the Archangel Gabriel has always been an announcement of salvation. The good news today is that nothing is impossible for God.
Brother Patton also said that 'the name of Archangel Michael' means 'power of God'. When we ask him for protection, it means asking God for protection. The name of the Archangel Raphael, the Custos continued, means 'God heals'.
Numerous local Christians, pilgrims and members of families displaced from the village attended the celebration.

My grandfather was the one who helped the Latin community in Al-Majaydel a hundred and twenty years ago. We belong to the Orthodox Church.
My grandfather gave the Latin community 14,000 square metres of land to build this monastery, which otherwise would have been confiscated along with everything else. In 1948, everyone was deported, my family moved to Haifa, and I was born there.

For me, this day is a holy day because it is the feast of the Archangels Gabriel, Michael and Raphael. I hope they protect us all, grant us the grace of health and all that we desire.

Custos of the Holy Land
This is a very small community, it is true, but this place is like a light in the dark. You can see the spiritual light of this small community because many people come here every week, and also during the week, to pray and get spiritual help.

I am certain that God will place the Shrine under the protection of Archangel Michael, revive this community and bestow His blessings on all people.
