We had the joy of celebrating the feast of Prophet Moses here at Mount Nebo. It is a very beautiful occasion to celebrate in the same place where he came. His presence here was a blessing for this place, he sanctified this Holy Land. It is a joy to celebrate this feast that is part of our history: history of salvation but also of our country, Jordan.
The Prophet Moses and Mount Nebo are united in history as in religion. Indeed, from here he admired the Promised Land. According to tradition, after leading the people of Israel through the desert, Moses overlooks the Promised Land, admires it, but without being able to enter it, however, because it is barred to him by God, and here he dies.
A holy place, a symbol of the Bible, Mount Nebo became a pilgrimage destination. And many pilgrims, religious, lay, and local faithful gathered on Friday, Sept. 1, around the Franciscans to celebrate its Solemnity of the Prophet Moses. It was a day of celebration but also a day of thanksgiving for the Franciscan community that is the custodian of this shrine.

Moses was a Prophet, he saw beyond. When he saw the promised land in front of him he saw not only land but he saw all the promises of God. But he could not go to the promised land. The fulfillment of the promises was made in Jesus Christ. He is the one who always leads us to the promised land, to the Kingdom of God. He is our guide.
