The gesture of the Washing of the Feet, instituted by Jesus, has been repeated even today, as more than 2000 years ago, in the same place, the Cenacle. In a silent procession, the friars of the Custody of the Holy Land came to the place that commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus. Here, together with the many local Christians and pilgrims, they retraced the steps narrated in the Gospel of Holy Thursday. Br FRANCESCO PATTON, ofm Custos of Holy Land "For us, Holy Thursday means Cenacle. Cenacle means Eucharist, it means washing of the feet and it means the new commandment of fraternal love. The Cenacle becomes the place where Jesus gives Himself out of love for us and where He is a servant and teaches us the value of service." Jesus "got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. Then he began to wash the disciples' feet, drying them with the towel he had around him". Today the Custos of the Holy Land washed the feet of 12 young Confirmands of the Latin Parish of Jerusalem. In the memory of the great mysteries which have been carried out in this Holy Place, the ceremony ended with the recitation, in unison, of the prayer of the Our Father, each person in his or her own language.
