Easter in Gaza: Joy in the Lord amidst a Dark Horizon

As the war continues in Gaza, Christians celebrated Easter in the Church of the Holy Family of the Latin Convent of Gaza City in an atmosphere of pain and sadness but with hope and joy in the Lord and praying for the end of the war. The ceremony was limited to religious rites. Father Gabriel Romanelli Latin Parish Priest of Gaza In Gaza, they spiritually celebrated in the most beautiful atmosphere, participating with Jesus Christ in the suffering of Golgotha and simply sharing the joy of Christ's resurrection. In addition to the atmosphere of war that characterizes the holiday, people suffer from the scarcity and high price of food, which is difficult to find. Father Gabriel Romanelli Latin Parish Priest of Gaza The priest of the Latin community, Father Youssef, who is now my vicar, wanted to prepare a surprise for the children, so he and his young assistants went around the whole city of Gaza to buy eggs for the children. The price of an Easter egg is 10 shekels, and I am grateful to God that I was able to give it to my parishioners as a very simple Easter gift. The prices of all products available on the market are very high, the price of 1 kg of tomatoes is 100 shekels. Father Romanelli, Latin parish priest of Gaza, currently in Jerusalem, describes the festive table saying: Father Gabriel Romanelli Latin Parish Priest of Gaza We cook there (in Gaza) two or three times a week a bit of pasta or rice, but the difference for Easter day is the eggs. Father Romanelli stated that people do not have what they need to satisfy their basic needs like water, food, and medicine. The parish has a water source that supports displaced refugees due to the war, Muslim children with special needs assisted by the Sisters of Mother Teresa, and hundreds of Muslim civilians, in addition to providing water to nearby residents. Despite all adversities, Father Romanelli praises the perseverance of the faithful. The sadness was and still is great, not in the Lord. They are faithful and steadfast in hope and love. Unfortunately, they still do not see a horizon, and this is what most affects human life there. Father Romanelli emphasized that the Pope is in constant contact with the Church of Gaza, expressing closeness and encouraging the faithful. He always says: "I am with you, and the Church prays for you. I ask you to protect the children and to live with courage and simplicity. I always work and pray for peace for everyone."
